Out West….Part 4

Well our time in San Francisco was short-lived, as we intended , it was time to get to the train station.42777000314_a05d182bf7_o

We arrived a few hours early and were lucky enough to get on an earlier train.

We were surprised, we didn’t have to show our passports, or even our tickets, b4 we boarded. No proof of who we were at all.

So… 28589753937_d54984c1a2_o we all got comfy and then some one came to look at tickets, but never Asked for any other proof. Anyway…..

There were times the trains were so close I had to get away from the window, just one of my phobias :).

So the trip was really on.

some very interesting turns

a small town we went through.

yep… this close

it was a while b4 we actually got out of California.

One of our very first stops was a town my husbands’ cousin lives in

waving to carol
Davis California.

We were only there about 5 min. .41668410410_057eafbccb_o-1.jpg. And off we went. Going at a pretty decent speed.

coal.coal and more coal

. And it was some time before the train stopped again.

One Fine Day

This past Mothers day  ,we took a hike at One Of NY States #1 parks. Lovingly called The Grand Canyon Of the East.  Letchworth State Park. Only 1/2 an hour from our house

A Niagara Falls and Grand Canyon  affair all rolled into one

we were so lucky to come as early as we did,

Glen iris Inn
this fine restaurant is home to many weddings and even just a lovely meal. we didn’t have a reservation , so there was not a chance in hell of eating there.

I knew we’d never get into the restaurant, so we found a nice spot to have a little lunch.

even if the park was packed, there are so many spots to choose from.

after a bite to eat, it was time to finish our hike
and… of course no hike is complete ..with out walking a million or so stairs
yep.. that’s the man, making sure I don’t tumble..or get lost:)

and no trip anywhere is complete. Until you use the facilities 🙂
this is one of the best parks around and to have it so close to home, I’m not sure why we don’t go more often. but they also have camping here and ill save that for another time, we did walk around and look at all the types of cabins they had , I don’t camp!!!!!

if you stopped by , thanks so much, and if your ever find yourself around this are, make sure you take at least a ride through.  this state park has so much to offer with its changing landscapes, and constant beauty.

let the festivals begin

Well its that time of year again, festivals every week end, sometimes over lapping, so one needs to pay attention, as to which one to go to… im not a fan of crowds at all, so where ever i go..i go early and leave in the middle.this last weekend, the fest.was in my little town,on the Erie Canal.

i had to park a good mile or more away, because im to cheap to pay ..upwards of 10 dollars. if i had a car full of people that would have been a different story, but i was alone…so here we go

no bikes or pets allowed.
you never know what you’ll see walking the banks of the canal:)
ive been on this boat so many times, lots of history. i waved and got a few waves back
we have a few row clubs
i have never seen a boat like this, and it looked like the dog was going after a fish ?:)

and if you notice that snowy stuff..its dogwood..it makes a mess, its everywhere, for a few weeks.

how cute..picking flowers for…. i dont know who, but my kids would not be standing past that fence!!!!!
whew.. i made it, good thing the weather was tolerable  in the 70’s nice shade, perfect for my walk into town…. now where the ladies room!!!!
i thought of Fragglerocks ‘ hubby when i saw this guy… because of His shirt. Phil love going to this record place when they visited us
also thought about fraggy here too..im not a wine drinker at all, but i loved that guys shirt. and if you look closer you can see my reflection on some of the bottles.

well for what ever reason im having a terrible time on wordpress today…  so..im going to leave now, and return in a few days with more?:)  anyone else out there having problems?    anyway, if you stopped by, thank you!! and have an awesome day… and a better week end:)!!

Memorial Week End

what to do with out of town family…. well take them out of town.. so off we went  about 1 1/2 hours from my home to where else, my home town…Buffalo ,NY.  with the temps being in the 90’s i thought for sure there’d be a breeze blowing off of lake Erie. well i was wrong. And most of you know i cant handle crowds.. but i made the best of it.after all, i got to show off the “New Buffalo” its a pretty big week end everywhere, so the fact that there was a carnival , no biggie. But i was on my Lake, and Home. so… here we go

of course there are always music makers around.
plenty of people.

ahh some elbow room.
ok, we got things to do….lets get moving.
well this guy saw my camera ,and had to pose.so i obliged:)
she made her own space and shade. i couldnt decide if i liked this in color or b&w.
in a very long line waiting for the bike ferry. no we didnt have bikes.
hopefully there will a breeze on the boat.
got a seat in the shade, anyway
we’ll be shoving off shortly
yep thats the gang..of course my husband ..couldnt wave
we wondered around a bird sanctuary  and we found these guys.
and then i saw these, and thought about my buddy Fraggy
well.. not much to do over on the outer harbor, unless you have a bike..so back in line.. no shelter from the  blazing sun… good thing its only a 5 min jaunt across the canal/river.

the Naval Park

Buffalo has a light rail,1/2 or more is underground.
i knew if i got them back to the beer tent i could get a shot of my nieces with their boyfriends.

well that does it for my jaunt to my hometown, with family in tow. hopefully things will settle down now. and next time i might even post a pic of the newest addition to our family. Yep you guessed it. we are finally Grandparents . Shes going to be 2 months old already.

if you took time to stop by, i thank you very much. i know ive been a stranger all month.

Have a wonderful rest of the week.

Floridians in Black & White

While my good friends Mary Smyth and Fraggy  are posting in Black and White, thye have encouraged me on so many levels through the years, I’ve decided to give it a go.. of course my new FujifilmX-T10 has been a huge help to me. I love street photoging, so i thought id share some of my “people”  shots in B&W.  and a few stories along the way

when ever ive been to St,Johns Pass this woman is feeding all of the wild life, this particular  day she must have had some very special seed. and i was very pleased that i got a reflection  too 🙂
just looking for a place to get warm and have lunch..and a cocktail of course 🙂
stopped at Clearwater  Beach on our way back to the condo, hit one of our favorite watering holes, and this is what i saw. it was so cold that day. this beach is never empty.
the next day was a bit warmer, found a jogger all by Him self.
hard to tell if this guy was one of the many transients  or just catching the rays
this guy reminded me of an old Humphrey Bogart Movie.
Breakfast time at the Covered Bridge cafe.   this was our waitress
ok, i got caught 🙂 so what… lol, i really was trying to get that guy in the back, he had an E.cig. and the smoke that was bellowing  around him was something else.but every time   with out fail some one got in my way.. so this was the best i could do
i couldnt keep my eyes off this little girl, she was on the verge of tears, and  i got lost in those big eyes
well here come the story….. we took a 3 hour ride to Ft.Myers Beach , and this older woman, figured we were there for a good time, so she directed o=us to this tiki bar, that had a happy hour like no other… the place was pack to the rafters. , so while i was getting my bearings.. and a drink 🙂 this giu just walked up and said oh take my picture… so i did 🙂

on with the story…….

My Husband has always been nervous about my being “so friendly” when we r on Vaca.. and my good Friend Dawn (on the inside)  has mentioned it to me a few times as well.. but… i think im a fairly good judge  of people.. anyway, the woman on the end..  is some one we dont know and most likely never see again.. she and her Husband were on vacation from way up North in Canada . we all started talking, he told us he was a retired Mounted  Police officer  and she said she was a  Physiotherapist……

he showed us card tricks..i was not amused , but my friend was..   we drank way to much, and had to get up at 5:30 am to catch the ferry to Key West.lol, the end, it doesnt hurt to be friendly at a bar… as long as you have a few rules in place:)  oh ps..thats me in the middle :))

well if  you stopped by thanks. and have an awesome rest of the week. and @fragglercking   and @MarySmyth   , thank you for all of your encouagement.

The start of my Florida Vacation

imageI had a welcoming committee when I arrived at my friends condo. They  vacation here often and were told there are 2 gators living in their little lake. They have never seen either one… I show up and wallaa there he is .

Pits been rather cold here, I don’t know much about northern Florida , ,have always vacationed in the southern parts. I think next year, I might wait till Feb. to come down here;) anyway, I’m making the most of it, going some where different every day.  I’ll catch up with everyone when I get home,  stay warm and take care.

well winter has really arrived

well I’m packing my suitcase and heading south for a few weeks, well only 2 , but that will take care of Jan. and if need be ill go straight back down there if feb. is bad.  so I’ve been busy with  the newest member of my camera family My Fujifilm X T10.  and I’ve been also busy purchasing gear for it.  since it has a retro look ,i just received. my retro case. and later today  my zoom lens should arrive.

it took me a while to figure out this little puzzle, but once i did, i was very pleased with the look. i had to hurry and get a case, i felt like i was taking a baby out with out being baptized.”)
on my way to the conservatory on our first frigid day (12 Degrees). saw this, another light box. in front of a firehouse.
Lamberton Conservatory. one day I’m going to find out way these buildings are all built the same way

the poinsettia x.mas tree.
still working on the settings, but i was really happy with this shot.  yes thats right its a turtle eating a tomato.
ahh can ya feel the warmth…
how ’bout some dry heat… sure felt good  this is probably my favorite room at the conservatory.
well it was time to move along.. and i ran over to Lake Ontario (a great Lake ), and as cold as it was. there was a woman sitting taking photos with her huge DSLR.. i shot off a few and ran back into the car.  we like to come up here during the seasons, to catch sunsets, and to wave to our neighbors in Canada .

last but not least. a look out at the Bay. the colors were extraordinary for this time of year.

and that does it. im so happy with my new camera. im actually going to sell My DSLR when i return from Florida.  if you stopped by, i hoped you enjoyed my little tour around the neighborhood, a little different than my last blog..eh:)!

and thanks. Have an awesome rest of the week.  next time i post.. ill be in sunny Florida.

one down..one more to go

As i have said before I’m not a fan of this month at all, weather wise, or people wise, the weather doesn’t know what its wants to do,although we have been very lucky this year.  and  then there’s the people… People of all shapes, coming at you, from every direction, and in the USA there’s Thanksgiving..which mean there’s always a big get together some where….. and that usually means travel… maybe i wouldn’t mind so much if we were going some where warm(er)..beaches and sunshine..you know:)!!!and of course people have begun shopping for Christmas.. so traffic is crazy, stores are crazy..it drives me crazy :)!!!  jus’say’n! so with our any more of my complaining or whining, and i don’t mean to, let me  get to what ive been doing.

a few days before Nov.26th i explored a few places in the city, found some awesome art…hello…hello…hello
stopped at a unique coffee joint..called Equal Grounds
more modern art
back at …Equal Grounds……get it
then it was Thanksgiving  (in the USA) time to make that trek to the north part Buffalo about a good 1 1/2 hour drive from where we live(in another cityi was lucky to catch this when i was loading up the car, about 7am
this is as close as i come to Green Bean Casserole.. that would be the dish in the middle…… yuck
my Husbands favorite pie..Banana cream . ill take His word for it.. not a fan of cream pies…geeze i sound fussy don’t i? well for the record im not
must have wine
i was in charge of desserts..what do you think? something for everyone. sweet potato pie, way over in the far corner. Apple pie, molasses  cookies,  pumpkin roll, and an assortment of butter cookies.
even with a small gathering of family, there must always be something Italian on the table…. its law:)!!! lol
lets not forget Mr. TomTurkey….  i love dark meat.. whats your favorite?
we had the moon to follow all the way home, i would have snapped continuously ,but i drove home:(. this is in my drive way
and i hope every one  tries to give some sort of thanks Daily.. i know i do!!!!

thanks for taking time to stop by,  and if u celebrated i hope your feast was a good one. lets all be thankful for what we have by sharing with others, especially the less fortunate.

November… the awkward month

Ive never been a fan of this month, and i don’t think old man winter cares for me either, the cold winds of Canada and the warm breezes of the South fighting with each other, around the Great Lakes, leaves me in such misery,  seems im always living on some kind of Pain meds. for my head.. I’m not complaining.. really I’m not ,i know it could be much worse, its just a fact of life for me.

so .. we have had our share of good weather, no snow this year, last year most places had well over a foot, in some cases..closer to the lakes. (Lake Erie and Lake Ontario)  5 ft!!!!!!!

so on the few days i was in town, and not running around, i took a self guided tour.. and this is what i found.

a city deck.. i love it
