A Little Side Steppin

wow, it sucks to get old.. especially when your not very healthy.   as we become the “adults” for our aging parents,  we learn a lot.. some good some bad. we all have horror storied to tell, some more than others. so i wont get into that part of it.

i had to go help out , again, my Mom, who is 80 had yet another back surgery. this time a bit more invasive.. a rod and screws.. and 26 stitches. living all most 2 hours away can some times be challenging.. with rescheduling and well life in general.. but we  do what we can.. im thankful for the Help of my baby Sister and Her Husband, who live in Bflo,Ny.

so  i thought id share, with you what i saw from the 17th floor of Buffalo General Hospital, and what i did for 2 days.

the Dog Days of Summer……..Whaaaat?:(

I’m not sure where the summer went this year, but here it is the middle of August, and schools are opening already.its true I’m retired, but i still go by the school calendar, and i still get up at the crackA$$ of dawn., so while a take a break from my vacation to Florida, i went to spend the week-end with my good pal and her Hubby in Buffalo ,NY.. They always try to show me a good time and this past week-end was no different.

I’m always amazed at the construction going on in my Home Town, Lord knows Buffalonians have waited a long to see prosperity, and its finally happening. their down town has been revitalized into a destination place that is beyond any ones wildest dreams.

it was an amazing day, the clouds were perfect the water was calm

My Adventures in My Home Town.. continuing saga

as i continued my water journey  into History, looking at the old grain mills, , it made me remember when i was little  , and every man went to work, and every man …just about… stopped at the corner tavern on the way home..usually on Pay Day!!!   i swore when i grew up, i would leave that area, and never ever marry any one who worked at a grain mill, or a steel mill.

i did leave the area, first chance i got, and i did not marry anyone from the area.i still get home sick, and its been 38 years since leaving Buffalo, altogether.

on the Buffalo River, looking at the old silos, and office buildings. these will eventually all be turned into something of use, or torn down. as construction has already started on many of these .
high flyer
my brother in Law took me to a (new) beach, that was nothing but waste land when i lived there, it was something to see!! on this particular day, it was very windy, if you look closely you can see the man at the end of the kite:) and the wave he is attempting to surf
under the skyway
on my way back from the Historic tour, here we are underneath the SkyWay, to the right is downtown. and straight ahead is a war museum on the that ship and there’s another vessel there as well, but ill get into those at a later date.
time for lunch
time for lunch, this is Larkinville, it use to be all factory type . working class, and over the years as factories closed… most everything was boarded up. homes in this area couldn’t even get insurance on their homes. this area is called the Valley.. the lower part of Buffalo. through hard work and many grants, this is now an eating establishment, they have weekly concerts, and food truck rodeos. its one of my favorite places to go , when I’m down that way, it’s not far from the water. oh.. and that little building called the filling station… was once a gas station. well that does it for “My Nostalgia” today. have a great week-end and thanks for stopping by

OutSide Art For the SOUL

Summer doesn’t last very long here in Western New York, and even then we all hold our breath in Hope that we do have a nice warm summer. So we try hard to do as many things outside as possible so on this day, after the Public market, while it was still rather early and No One to Bother ME!!! I stopped at our lovely Art Museum. It has One of the Largest City parks I’d like to show you.

a bit of History

Centennial Sculpture Park has recast ten acres of the Gallery’s grounds into a showcase of public art and urban space. In the Sculpture Park, you’ll find a new kind of ‘town square’ – a spectacular gathering spot located in the heart of the Neighborhood of the Arts and a destination for Rochesterians and visitors alike.

Four major artists were commissioned to create site specific work for Centennial Sculpture Park. Wendell Castle’s Unicorn Family provides an outdoor grouping of chairs, a table, and a lamp for visitors who like to sit and enjoy the passing scene. Jackie Ferrara created Marking Crossways, geometric pathways and cameos leading from the ‘quarry’ area to the front entrance of MAG. Tom Otterness, known internationally for his engaging installations created Creation Myth, two heroic figures at the corner of Goodman and University Street as well as 17 diminutive bronze muses scattered throughout the Park. Albert Paley installed Soliloquy, a colorful 25-foot stainless steel sculpture at the Goodman Street entrance.

ordinarily ..on Saturdays you cant even move its so darn crowded, so i thought id show you what our city has, people rave about this market, im not sure why, when we go on vacation one of the things we like to do is visit other city public markets… and we always are in awe of what others have…i guess:)  any way, now that the veggies are here, this is how i spend my Thursdays …and some times Saturdays, depending on what i need. and thats the end of my little tour for today. thanks for stopping by,later gators
