so i had to go home again (where i grew up) to take care of Mom. She still needs help with Laundry and grocery shopping, still cant drive yet, or bend. even though im not all that far away, its amazing how 1 night away can gum up the works. Of course sleeping on a sofa doesnt help. but..i do what a can.so my reward was meeting my Brother in Law to shoot for a little bit. We met up on the west side of Buffalo, in a neighborhood called Elmwood Village. and of course had to go to a unique coffee house called SPoT. we walked and walked, and then i headed for my Home, to care for my own family, the felines were angry. what else is new?!!and later in the week , after i caught up on my sleep ,in the comfort of my own bed captured a few subjects:) so here we go……….
i hope you enjoyed the little tour, have a wonderful rest of the week end, and a super week
I’m not sure where the summer went this year, but here it is the middle of August, and schools are opening already.its true I’m retired, but i still go by the school calendar, and i still get up at the crackA$$ of dawn., so while a take a break from my vacation to Florida, i went to spend the week-end with my good pal and her Hubby in Buffalo ,NY.. They always try to show me a good time and this past week-end was no different.
I’m always amazed at the construction going on in my Home Town, Lord knows Buffalonians have waited a long to see prosperity, and its finally happening. their down town has been revitalized into a destination place that is beyond any ones wildest dreams.
as i continued my water journey into History, looking at the old grain mills, , it made me remember when i was little , and every man went to work, and every man …just about… stopped at the corner tavern on the way home..usually on Pay Day!!! i swore when i grew up, i would leave that area, and never ever marry any one who worked at a grain mill, or a steel mill.
i did leave the area, first chance i got, and i did not marry anyone from the area.i still get home sick, and its been 38 years since leaving Buffalo, altogether.
About My Hometown, i grew up on the south side of Buffalo, just foot steps away from the lake. but when i was growing up, the waters were so contaminated.. well, it was just something to look at. So for this part of my Blog, Im going to navigate through some of the old grain mills and some that are still in use…Like…General Mills. when i come back ill share some of the things that anyone can see , when they come to town these days. thanks for stopping by, have a wonderful rest of the week . and Heres a little History i was able to dig up
I grew up on the waterfront, just like the movie, with Marlon Brando..
the grain mills were always running, the tug boats were busy, the steel mills were in full production, every one worked.. well at least till the holidays, then most got laid off, for a few weeks .I grew up with hard-working middle class people, every one was catholic, and Irish ..lol, except me..I’m Italian. but the times have changed and so has the part of Buffalo that I grew up in. For the Good, it is now a Tourists destination. I’ve always been fond of going back home, but now I enjoy it even more… to be continued
